Fırın satın almak, pek çok seramikçi için en önemli aşamalardan biridir. Büyük ihtimalle seramikçi olarak yapacağınız en büyük yatırımdır. Doğru seçim, özenli kullanım ve bakım ile uzun yıllar rahatlıkla kullanacağınız atölyenizdeki en önemli ekipmandır. Fırınınızı almadan önce dikkate almanız gereken birçok faktör bulunmaktadır.
ELEKTRİKLİ FIRIN MI, GAZLI FIRIN MI?
Seçeceğiniz fırının gazlı mı yoksa elektrikli mi olacağını aslında yapmayı planladığınız ürünler belirler. Bazı malzemeler elektrikli fırında daha iyi sonuç verirken, diğerleri gazlı fırında istediğiniz etkiyi yaratır. Genel olarak, elektrikli fırınlarda daha parlak renkler elde edilebilirken, gazlı fırınlarda -redüktif atmosfer nedeniyle- daha çok toprak renkleri, pastel tonlar, rustik etkiler elde edilebilir.

Karar vermeniz gereken bir konu da fırınınızın yükleme şeklidir. Üstten yüklemeli fırınlar yükleme sırasında sırtınıza fazla yük bindirir; boşaltma sırasında ise, ısı doğrudan yüzünüze geleceğinden tamamen soğumadan açılmamalıdır.
Önden yüklemeli fırınlarda ise, fırın içine eğilmeniz gerekmediğinden yükleme ve boşaltması çok daha kolaydır. Genel olarak daha dayanıklı ve uzun ömürlüdür. Bu nedenle okullar, büyük atölyeler gibi fazla kullanıcının olduğu yerler için, önden yüklemeli fırınlar üstten yüklemeli fırınlardan çok daha uygundur. Eğer fırınınızı çok sık yakacaksanız ya da çok yüksek derecelerde pişirim yapacaksanız önden yüklemeli fırınlar size daha uzun ve güvenilir bir hizmet vereceklerdir.
