Seramik endüstrisinde ve sanatsal çalışmalarda kullanılmakta olan stoneware çamurların standart bir reçetesi olmamaktadır, kullanım alanına göre çeşitlendirilebilmektedir. Yüksek derecelere (12000C) çıkabilen su emmesi düşük bünyelerdir. Stoneware çamurların üretilmesinde plastikliği yüksek olan killer, kuvars ve feldspatlar kullanılmaktadır. Kil grubu seramik bünyenin şekillendirilebilme özelliğini artırarak şekillendirme sırasında avantaj sağlamaktadır. Feldspatik mineraller pişirim esnasında oluşturduğu camsı faz sayesinde su emme özelliğini düşürmektedir. Kuvars yüksek ergime derecesi sayesinde iskelete görevi görmektedir, pişirim sırasında bünyenin şekil değiştirmesini önlemektedir. Kullanılan hammaddelere göre bünye rengi değişkenlik gösterebilmektedir, kremkahve-siyah renklerinde olabilmektedir (Taçyıldız, 2015: 21-22).Stoneware çamurlar, serbest elle şekillendirme bakımından kolay şekillendirilebilir olması, pürüzsüz yüzeylere sahip olması, istenilirse çamur bünyenin içeresine ince şamot parçaları konulup dokulu yüzeyler elde edilebilmesi, yüksek derecelere çıkabilmesi ve renk yelpazesinin geniş olması özellikleriyle birçok seramik sanatçısı tarafından tercih edilen çamur olmaktadır.
