Çiçekleri yerleştirmeye başlamadan önce çiçeği yerleştireceğimiz mekânı bilmemiz gerekmektedir. Yatak odası, oturma odası gibi mekânlarda kullanacağımız kapların bitkiye uygunluğunu ve odada kullanılacağı yeri belirlemeliyiz. Ayrıca yerleştirilecek çiçek ve yaprakların birbirine ve desene uygunluğu önemlidir.
Yatak odası için yapacağımız çiçek düzenlemelerinde genellikle küçük, iç açıcı düzenlemelere yer verilmelidir. Örneğin, küçük bir vazoya yerleştirilmiş menekşe, yaseminle yapılan düzenleme uygundur.
Yemek odası için yapacağımız düzenlemelerde ise, çiçekler yemek masasının ortasına ya da kenarına konulur. Kullanılan kap ve çiçekler yemek takımına, masa örtüsüne uygun olmalıdır. Masada oturan insanların birbirini görebilmeleri için çiçek düzeninin yüksek olmamasına dikkat edilmelidir. Çiçekler kokusuz olmalı, her yandan görünecek şekilde yerleştirilmelidir.
Çiçek yerleştirmek için kullanılacak kaplar düz renkte olmalı, fazla dikkat çekmemelidir. Çiçeğin rengi, yerleştirileceği yerin döşeme ve fon rengine uygun olmalıdır. İlk bakışta kap değil, çiçek gözümüze çarpmalıdır.
